McDowell Middle School
Originally constructed in 1970, McDowell Middle School serves approximately 520 students in grades 6th through 8th. Similarly to Meyer Elementary School, McDowell, due to the age of the facility, has a number challenges related to educational adequacy and capital needs. The HISD bond program includes the following improvements for McDowell:
- New Addition – Includes 2 new Science Lab/Classroom combinations, new Art room, and student and staff restrooms.
- Conversion of existing Art room to practice rooms and storage for Band.
- Renovation of existing Science Labs
- Relocation of Administration downstairs w/secure entry. Expansion of library upstairs, including two Computer labs.
- Campus wide HVAC replacement; electrical upgrades to support technology; upgrades to bells/intercom; and upgrades to fire alarms.
- Renovation of existing restrooms and dressing rooms for handicap accessibility.

McDowell Middle School improvement were completed for the start of school in the fall of 2018. The improvement provided a new controlled entry, newly renovated library, science labs, art room, band practice rooms and air conditioning campus-wide. 1-year warranty walk-thru's are currently underway. |
